MBA (Biotechnology)
Admission Information for Year 2012-13
The Department of Management
Sciences, University of Pune has pioneered a two year full time
MBA (Biotechnology) degree program since 2002.
Who can apply?
A candidate with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in
Science or who has appeared for the final year examination
(Biology, Biochemistry, Biotechnology, Botany, Chemistry, Life
Sciences, Marine Biology, Microbiology, Zoology), Agriculture,
Ayurved, Medicine, Engineering, Pharmacy, Technology, Veterinary
Sciences from a statutory university.
How is the Selection Done?
Step 1:
Candidates seeking admission to this program for the academic
year 2012 should have appeared for the ATMA test conducted on
February 12th, 2012 (see details on
www.atmaonline.in).
Step 2:
The interested candidates should register themselves for the
GD/PI test (Group Discussion and Personal Interview) conducted
by the Dept. of Management Sciences, University of Pune (PUMBA).
The details of GD/PI are given in the course prospectus.
The admission will be made
strictly on the basis of overall merit i.e. written test (ATMA)
score + GD score + PI score (Combined score).
Combined Score = ATMA Test Score
+ GD Score + PI Score
If the candidate fails to
appear for GD or for PI, he/she will not be eligible for
the merit list.
The Head of the Department decision is final in case of any
dispute.
Please Note:
-
A candidate is eligible for
admission to MBA (Biotechnology) program for the academic
year 2012-13 if she/he has Passed in her/his
graduation (qualifying) examination with requisite
percentage, (on the day of counseling).
-
A candidate is eligible for
admission to MBA (Biotechnology) program for the academic
year 2012-13 if she/he has appeared for her/his graduation
(qualifying) examination and is waiting for the results, on
the day of counseling. (In such a case the result has to be
obtained by Sept 30th 2012)

A candidate is NOT eligible
for admission to MBA (Biotechnology) program for the
academic year 2012-13 if she/he has been declared Failed
in her/his graduation (qualifying) examination on
the day of counseling).

A candidate is NOT eligible
for admission to MBA (Biotechnology) program for the
academic year 2012-13 if she/he has been declared Failed
in her/his graduation (qualifying) examination
and has applied for Revaluation/ Re-verification of
results and is waiting for the results of Revaluation/
Re-verification.
How to obtain the prospectus for
MBA (BT) admission?
The prospectus can be obtained in
person from the PUMBA office on payment of Rs. 900/- (for open
category) and Rs. 700/- (for reserved category of State of
Maharashtra only) by Demand Draft from February 1, 2012 on all
working days between 11.00am to 5.00pm.
The prospectus can also be
obtained by post by paying through a DD of Rs. 950/- (for
open category) and Rs. 750/- (for reserved category of State of
Maharashtra only).
The DD should be drawn in favor of
‘The Registrar University of Pune’, payable at Pune
from any nationalized Bank.
Till what date is the prospectus
available?
The prospectus will be available
by post till April 25, 2012.

What is the last date for
accepting the completed form?
The completed forms will be
accepted at PUMBA till 5PM on April 30, 2012.
What documents should I submit
along with the form?
You need to submit attested xerox
copies of ATMA score, Caste certificate, Caste validity
certificate, and “Non-Creamy layer” certificate (if you belong
to the Reserved Category of State of Maharashtra) and one self
addressed envelope affixed with Rs.25/- postal stamp for the
dispatch of admit card for GD/PI.
Please read prospectus and the form carefully and fill all the
information. Please also give correct phone numbers (land line +
mobile) and email addresses so that you can be contacted by the
same if required.
What is the fee structure?
The candidates will have to secure
their admission by paying full fees during counseling.
The demand draft of any Nationalized Bank, should be drawn in
the favor of

Fees for Other Backward Class category (OBC) Candidates Rs
32,500/- per year
When is the GD/PI scheduled?
The GD/PI is scheduled from
June 4, 2012 onwards.
The batch wise details will be available on department’s
website and notice board from May 18th 2012. The
admit cards for GD/PI will be posted via the self addressed
stamped envelop sent by the candidate, communicating the Date,
Time & Batch No. GD/PI Test.
What certificates & other
documents are required for GD/PI?
The candidates will have to
produce the following original certificates and
documents before presenting himself / herself for the GD
and PI Test.

Statement of marks
and passing certificates for SSC (Tenth Standard)

Statement of marks
and passing certificates for HSC (Twelfth Standard)

for Bachelor’s / Master’s degree Examination.

Note: The candidate has to bring
the original Caste Certificate, Caste Validity
Certificate and Non-Creamy Layer Certificate at the time of GD/PI.
If the candidate cannot certify his or
her caste at the time of GD/PI, then he/she will be listed in
the general merit list.
When will the Merit list be
displayed?
Merit list will be displayed on
this website and on the department Notice board on June 15th,
2012 by 5 PM.
No communication will be made to the candidates separately.
The admission will be made
strictly on the basis of overall merit
i.e. written test (ATMA) score + GD score + PI score (Combined
score).

For the preparation of category
wise merit lists it is important to present the Original Caste
Certificate, Caste Validity certificate and “Non-Creamy layer”

When is the counseling
procedure?
Admission by the process of
counseling at PUMBA is on June 29, 2012 at 10.30 AM
What is counseling procedure?
Admission to the MBA (BT) program
is given in the counselling procedure. This involves
verification of all documents listed above and seat allotment
after payment of fees by a demand draft. This is done according
to the guidelines provided by the Maharashtra State Government.
The list of candidates required
to attend the counseling round will be displayed on our website
after June 22nd, 2012.

How does counseling procedure
take place?
On the day of counseling round,
admissions are confirmed for candidates in the following order:

21 seats for graduates from
University of Pune are filled as per the inter-se merit list
(general merit list)
-
4 seats for graduates from
other universities in the state of Maharashtra are filled as
per the within Maharashtra state inter-se merit list (WMS-general
merit list)
-
5 seats for graduates from
universities outside the state of Maharashtra are filled as
per the outside Maharashtra state inter-se merit list
(OMS-general merit list)
-
21 seats for reserved category
graduates from university of Pune are filled as per the Home
University Reserved Category merit list in the order given
in the table below
-
9 seats for reserved category
graduates from other universities in the state of
Maharashtra (WMS- reserved category) are filled as per the
category wise merit list in the order given in the table
below
-
1 candidate for the J & K seat
and the 2 seats for physically handicapped candidates are
filled.

of any candidate in the merit list does not ensure admission.
The candidate has to be present in PUMBA on the day of
counseling with all the required documents and the demand
draft.
